General Business

• President Scott suggested that the club show their appreciation to Robin Elijah who is retiring from being Post Master here at Lang Lang since 2007. Robin has dedicated his time to the Lang Lang community and its businesses, and we wish all the best for Robin in his next adventure.
   
• Scott advised members that a series of meetings, both in person and online, are available for those wishing to learn more about Rotary roles, including President and Board Member training, as well as areas such as Foundation and International Services.
   
• Discussion was had by those attending for Michele to continue her work with the club constitution.
   
• Members discussed approaching Koo Wee Rup Secondary College in regard to MUNA, which will be held in August this year. Members agreed that they would sponsor those students who wish to take part. Travis to reach out to contacts to discuss.
   

• Some great news was also delivered on the night. Harold Keily will step up as President Elect for the 2026–27 year. All in attendance agreed that Harold will do a great job and offered their support where needed in the coming 12 months.

Scotty’s Musings - 3^rd June 2026

Well welcome to June and Winter.  It’s also the start of my last month as your President.

Since our last meeting I have been very busy representing our Club at several meetings and training sessions.

Two weeks ago on Thursday 21^st May both Michele and I attended an online training session for Foundation Grants.  For our club to be eligible to apply for a Grant we needed to participate in one of the 3 sessions ran by Alma Reynolds the District Foundation Chair. This was a very informative night and well worth attending.

On Saturday 23^rd May again Michele and I participated in the District Assembly which again was online.  We participated in sessions regarding Marketing and Communications, Foundation, International, Financial, Youth Programs, New Style Club Development and Membership and Club Experience.  There certainly was lots to take in and consider on the day.  Fortunately, the sessions were approx. 45 mins long and interactive with 15 min coffee and loo breaks between sessions.  Special shout out to District for a great session.

Sunday 24^th the “All in the Mind” Mental Health Forum was held at the Cardinia Cultural Centre which we joined with the Rotary Club of Emerald and District, Belgrave, Boronia and Monbulk in running.  This was a free day for the community with keynote speakers from Beyond Blue.  Unfortunately, I wasn’t well on the Sunday and couldn’t attend after registering to attend. Talking with District Governor Elect Emma Clark it was a very worthwhile day.

Monday 25^th was the Rotary Community Group Monthly meeting where discussion was had regarding membership and also our Districts adoption of “Saying No to Domestic Violence” as our cause for next year.  There are lots of resources available to us to help promote this in our community.  As President I have been involved with this committee all year and I am happy to continue or hand it over to President Elect Harold to represent our Club moving forward.

Friday 29^th was the District 9815 President’s Meeting and Awards Dinner at Officer.  It was great to spend a social night with fellow Rotarians and celebrate the amazing work that fellow Rotarians are undertaking across our District.  We were not in the running for any of the awards however, this year under President Elect Harold, we may put our hat in the ring for recognition.

Saturday 30^th was an early rise and off to Sale to represent our Club at the Mini President Elect and Board Member Training.  What a fantastic day this was and I wish I had undertaken this training before my year as I learnt a lot.  I have a folder of information for Harold, and the District Team are only too happy to support our Clubs endeavours!  It was also great to catch up with Past President Bob Comber who has taken on a Board Role at the Rotary Club of Sale.  We wish Bob all the best with his year!

We also supported the BBQ Breakfast at the Lang Lang Netball Club again on Saturday 30^th May.  Thanks Michele and Rob for facilitating this for us.

The next Bowls Club social dinner is on Friday 12^th June and I’m told its Apricot Chicken night.  What a great night of home cooked comfort food that will be!  Let’s get a table together again as it’s a great night of fellowship with fellow Rotarians and our local community.

The District Changeover Night is on Saturday 4^th July at the Cardinia Cultural Centre.  Cost is $80 per person and it’s a 6 for 6:30pm start.  Tickets are online and RSVP is by 17^th June.  The link for tickets: https://events.humanitix.com/district-9815-changeover-2026   I will be attending and it would be good to have others from our Club attend as well.

Our changeover is booked for the Palace Hotel in Lang Lang on Sunday 28^th June at 12:00pm.  Meals and drinks are from the menu and bar respectively.  This is obviously a partner’s event and children are welcome.  RSVP to me by Monday 23^rd June.

We have received an invitation from the Rotary Club of Pakenham for their Changeover on Tuesday 23^rd June.  It’s there 65^th Birthday and will be a celebration of the wonderful work they have done over the journey.  Cost is $50 per head and is at the Copper and Fox Restaurant in Lakeside Boulevard in Pakenham.  RSVP is the 16^th June.  Everyone should have received the invite from Casey for this event.  RSVP is to Tim Mepstead.  Tim’s e-mail is: Timothy.mepstead@gmail.com 

We haven’t received notification from Garfield – Bunyip or Drouin of their Changeovers but as soon as received we will distribute the details to our members.

As most will be aware, our Secretary Casey has tendered her resignation. At our last board meeting it was agreed that I would take the role over next year supported by Michele and Travis. Thanks to you both.  We have big shoes to fill after Graham Warry and Casey’s efforts.

Reminder that the Rotary South Pacific Conference 2026 is being held in Melbourne from Friday 30^th October to Sunday 1^st November this year.  This will be an amazing opportunity to learn and appreciate the Global Reach that Rotary has.  Details of the conference are online at: https://rotarysouthpacific.org/page/zoneconference2026 .  Conference registration is $325 per person without the Gala Dinner or $425 per person including the Dinner.

Next years District 9815 Conference is being planned to be held in the Hunter Valley in NSW in March.  More information will be coming soon.

Speaking of District, did you know that our District is changing again. From 2027 – 2028 we will become known as District 9830 and we will be growing to include all of Tasmania and other parts of Victoria within our District.  More information will be coming regarding this change.

There is a resolution here tonight from District Governor Peter Behm that is seeking our support to take to the Rotary International Board, seeking that any savings that are created by the District changes be credited back to Clubs. As a Club, we need to discuss this tonight and make a decision.

Finally, although he is not here tonight, Congratulations to Bulletin Editor Travis Davidge on being awarded a leadership scholarship by the Cardinia Shire. That’s why he is not here tonight. Well done Travis, well deserved and also thanks for the great work each fortnight on our Bulletin.

Well, this has certainly been my biggest weekly report of my term. Hopefully your still awake!
