Hi everyone, welcome to May. It’s been quite a while since we all met and lots has been occurring!
Thanks to everyone for all your support at the Anzac Day Breakfast. It was wonderful to see so many Rotarians in attendance and what a perfect morning it was. I believe we cooked and served over 200 egg and bacon sandwiches and around 150 sausages in bread with onion and even egg once the bacon run out. We increased the quantity being cooked and we certainly had a constant stream of hungry attendees after the service finished. A huge shout out once again to Rob and Michele for all your efforts getting things squared away before the day. Also a thank you to the Lang Lang IGA for donating Bread and a case of apples and bananas for the crowds enjoyment. Special thanks too Kyra for laying Rotary’s wreath on the cenotaph.
I’ve been attending dawn services in Lang Lang for over 30 years and I would suggest that this was possibly the best dawn service ever. A huge shout out to the Lang Lang RSL Executive for their organisation and especially Allison Kruizinga who did an amazing job coordinating and organising the fly over. What a wonderful way to commemorate Anzac Day. The crowds are growing and the Anzac Spirit is alive and well in Lang Lang.
As mentioned last bulletin, I’ve returned from my stint in Sale at Easter and then from 2 weeks house sitting for my sister in Campbellfield. Were now into May and that means tonight is my 4th last night of my year as President. Where has the year gone? We need to discuss next year and moving forward tonight.
Sadly our Secretary Casey has advised that she will be leaving our Club at the end of her term as Secretary in July and this will leave a huge gap for us to fill. Casey we appreciate all you have done in your 5 years in Rotary and we wish you well in yours and Kyles futures. The door is always open for you to rejoin if the opportunity arises.
The Rotary Community Leader Group 4 that we are part of had a movie night fundraiser for our group’s project of helping stop Domestic Violence last Friday Night at Belgrave. It was by all reports a great night. Unfortunately I was unwell on Friday and couldn’t make it but there is discussions underway to potentially look at doing something here in Cardinia at possibly the Garfield theatre?
Thanks to Treasurer Michele for representing our club last week at the Cardinia Shire’s Grants Writing workshop. I’m sure Michele will have picked up lots of tips and tricks for our Club to benefit from.
Last Thursday Travis and I met with Cr Trudi Paton and Shire representatives to discuss pedestrian crossing safety along McDonald’s Track near Gainsborough Avenue. It’s amazing how big the estate is on that side of town. There is a suggestion that its now bigger than “old” Lang Lang and I certainly was amazed how many streets are in the estate. The council is unable to create a crossing with lights etc but they did agree to do some site line clearing and some improvements to the footpath to raise pedestrian awareness which is a step in the right direction.
There is a President Elects Training Day being held at Sale on Saturday 30th May and this day is open to all of our Board Members in particular any new Board Members. It’s a free day with
Morning Team and Lunch supplied. I’m going along and would love the company! Good chance to catch up with Bob and Dianne as well afterwards!
There is also on Saturday 23rd a series of 45 minute Zoom Meetings on a number of topics to assist running of a Club. I’ve registered to attend the sessions from the comfort of home and if anyone would like to sit in on them with me or join from the comfort of your own home please do so.. We will send the e-mail out to all members with the links.
If that wasn’t enough, on Tuesday 19th there is a zoom meeting all about Rotary Foundation. If you are interested, we can also send you a link. Again, I’ll be joining from home online.
Over the last month several of our members have been under the weather or under the knife and we wish everyone all the best for speedy recoveries.
Finally, on behalf of the Rotary Club of Koo Wee Rup – Lang Lang wish all the Mums out there a wonder Mother’s Day this Sunday!
