Meeting Opened 1900 hrs at Lang Lang Bowls Club.

President Scott opened the meeting and welcomed all along.

Family of Rotary

  • Sam recently made a “drop-in” visit to see Geoff Reeves, only to discover Geoff was away in Melbourne having his wrist closely examined. The latest update is that Geoff is now residing at a retirement village in Cranbourne.
  • Sam himself is sporting a noticeable scar following recent lip surgery to remove an unwelcome guest.
  • By all accounts, Rudy is recovering well following recent knee surgery. Best wishes from everyone attending for a speedy recovery Rudy.

General Business

  • President Scott provided members with an overview of the recent Dawn Service, which by all accounts was a great success. Key highlights included the haka, bugle player, and flyover, all of which received very positive feedback from those attending. Scott thanked all members who contributed to the Rotary BBQ.

  • Scott thanked Casey Hamblin for her hard work and dedicated service since joining the Koo Wee Rup–Lang Lang Rotary Club and wished her all the best in her future endeavours.

  • There appears to have been a positive outcome from a recent meeting regarding the crossing point at Gainsborough Avenue. Scott, Travis, Cr Trudi Paton, and a senior engineer from Cardinia Shire met to discuss possible solutions to the ongoing issue of Summerfields Estate residents crossing McDonald Track. Plans include clearing back vegetation and installing more visible signage to alert motorists to the crossing point.

  • Scott advised members that a series of meetings, both in person and online, are available for those wishing to learn more about Rotary roles, including President and Board Member training, as well as areas such as Foundation and International Services.

  • Some positive movement with regards to the Foreshore Rotunda Project, with DEECA indicating that they are close to being able to advise the approval pathway and requirements necessary for the project to proceed and ultimately be achieved. Travis to continue to pursue outcome.

  • A number of items were brought before members for consideration of financial support, including:

    • $500 donation to Beyond Blue - Supported by Sam & Michele - Members approved

    • Joint support(Rotary & Medical Centre Board) for LLPS Retaining Wall Project $4500 each - Supported by Sam & Michele - Members approved

    • Support for the Lang Lang Netball Club through the purchase of items for an upcoming promotional BBQ, including eggs and bacon — Supported by Sam and Michele — Approved by members.

    • In priciple support was offered for the upcoming Landcare Planting Day BBQ - Rotary to run BBQ at a fee of $5 per head.

  • An annual donations discussion was also held, with all attending members in favour of continuing the ongoing annual contributions, to be tabled and presented by Michele.

Scotty’s Musings – Wednesday 20th May 2026

Good Evening Everyone and thanks for coming out to tonight’s meeting.

It’s been a busy 2 weeks for our Club and I’d like to thank all who have been involved in activities. I hope all our Mothers had a good Mother’s Day on Sunday 10th. On Friday 15th seven members attended the monthly dinner at the Lang Lang Bowls Club. What a fantastic night of fellowship with a beautiful home cooked meal to boot. Shepards Pie with Mashed Potatoes and Vegetables and Apricot Flan with Ice Cream. Absolutely delicious and very filling. This was followed up with a trivia challenge and Sam Loughridge, John Williams and Myself were the 2md place getters, so we were obviously very trivial! Next Month its Apricot Chicken so it would be fantastic to have as many members attend as possible to support the Bowling Club. A great social night.

Sadly our Club lost a long time Rotarianne with the passing of Una Fell. Several members attended her funeral in Warragul on Monday 18th May and thanks to Past President Jan Kruizinga for delivering part of the Eulogy in regards to Una and Col’s involvement with our Club. Col was a Charter Member, Past President and Former Treasurer of the Club. Col passed away 13 years ago and now he and Una are reunited again. RIP Una Fell. Deppest Condolences to the Fell Family.

Sad news this week with the passing of Bob Comber’s mother Patricia Hazeldene. Pat’s funeral will be at the Cirrus Chapel at Bunurong Memorial Park in Dandenong South on Wednesday 27th May. Deepest Condolences to Bob, Diane and Family.

Tonight we had the 2nd last Board Meeting of my Presidency, and it is with great pleasure that we can announce that Harold Keily will be the incoming President for 2026 – 27. I’m sure you will all agree that Harold will be a great President and we all will get behind him and support him for his year as you have for me during my year. Thanks Harold!

Further Board announcements will be made closer to the changeover.

Speaking of Changeover, Put Sunday 28th June in your diaries for Changeover lunch at the Palace Hotel in Lang Lang (T.B.C.). Family and friends are welcome to attend to celebrate Harold becoming our new President.

Thanks again everyone for all you do for Rotary.

Yours in Rotary,

Scott Hamilton
