What a great community day Sunday was for us. Congratulations to the Lang Lang P.A.& H Association for running a wonderful Family Fun Day at the showgrounds. Rotary was front and centre with our BBQ trailer and the trade was constant for most of the day. The weather was hot and humid which didn’t make the task any easier for our wonderful attendees but overall it was a great day. Lots and lots of young families in attendance enjoying a great day. Special thanks to John, Hayden, Travis, Michele and Rob keeping everyone fed during the day.
Since the last Club Meeting I have attended the District 9815 President’s meeting at Beaconsfield and also the Sale Rotary Club meeting with Bob Comber. This was the DG’s cluster visit similar to what we had at the Golf Course. Both of these meetings showcased the impact that Rotarian’s can have in their communities and I would like to thank Past President Bob for making me so welcome at the Sale Club’s meeting. So what did I take away from these meetings?
- Men’s Prostrate Heath Checks. A partnership between Rotary and the Ted Whitten Foundation. I have offered to host 2 events for this important project. One at Lang Lang Football Club and one at Koo Wee Rup Football Club. These events will be made open to all sports clubs in each town and also to our Fire Brigades. Initial thoughts were to see if we could have it when Koo Wee Rup plays Tooradin – Dalmore and Lang Lang plays Catani?
- Rotary Says No to Domestic Violence. Unfortunately I missed the last meeting as I was away however the project appears to be moving forward. There are lots of resources available to support the program and as a Club we had indicated that we would purchase shirts. Still awaiting details. The Sale Club has done there own thing and it looks like being worth exploring further. It may be more aligned to our community as opposed to what the other clubs in our cluster are looking at but further investigation is needed. Either way, this is an area we can raise public awareness into.
- Branding. Rotary District 9815 is willing to go ½’s in the cost of Rotary Signage that helps promote Rotary and our Club. Effectively there are 4 entrances into Koo Wee Rup and 4 into Lang Lang. This program would mean we could have bright new fresh signage on each corner of our towns for ½ the price. At the same time, we can also incorporate QR Coding that incorporates the Rotary Logo and sends people to our website. The challenge that brings is having a dedicated webmaster who keeps the page up to date as the last thing we want to do is send people to an out of date site. I think this is something we should pursue and its on the agenda for our next board meeting. We can also loo at this financial support for rebranding of the BBQ trailer.
By the time of our next meeting I will have been to Hobart for our District 9815 conference. I am looking forward to flying to Hobart on Friday 13th (Early) and spending 3 full days at my first conference. I return on Monday 16th and will have a full wrap for you at our next meeting on the 18th. If you have any tips for me, I’d love to hear from our seasoned Rotary Conference attendees.
